The day started off on a good note with Dr. Dianne and Phil Ferguson. It was nice to see them in a conference setting because they are currently teaching our other class. They talked about the relationships between families and schools. It was especially interesting when they gave audience members an opportunity to talk about their own personal experiences with their children and working with professionals.
One particular interesting visual I got from this presentation was that of a triangle and how the communication between family, child and professionals should be connected. We talked about how sometimes there are breaks in these connections and I would have to agree that it is more often broken than not.
Karen Dyke's presentation was also of particular interest to me. She talked about how where you live can fully impact your experience with schools and the families involvement at their children's schools. It was interesting because she was so happy that Phil and Dianne showed the slide show that they showed which was comparing where they lived in Florida, to here in NS.
Overall great day!
